Actionable Cold Email Tip

Most businesses are still running cold email strategies that worked in 2023.

They don’t get replies and think: “cold email doesn’t work”.

So I wanted to share what is working for me and my B2B clients in January 2025.

  1. Deliverability best practices aren’t just a ‘nice to have’. They’re a requirement.

    Buy domains on Cloudflare, split sending volume across Google and Microsoft and warm up for 2 weeks minimum. Ideally you’re matching inbox providers as well. This means sending Google to Google and MSFT to MSFT.

  2. Generic personalization doesn’t cut it anymore.

    Saying things like “I saw your website and….” Your personalization needs to be insightful. I like to ask my clients: “If you had an hour to research a prospect, so you could send a personalized email, what things would you look for?” Use this insight to build a relevant personalization. Without a real reason to reach out, your reply rates will suffer.

  3. Your list is your strategy.

    List building should be focused on creating as much intent as possible. If your target company has no intent to buy your service, then you’ll have trouble getting replies. Intent is a signal indicating a potential buying cycle. This could be as simple as creating a highly targeted lookalike audience. It could also be more event based intent like new hires, open roles, funding, or following and engaging with competitors on social media). Dialing in intent is a major key to winning in 2025.

  4. Use the 2025 cold email MVP tech stack.

    The tech we’re using today includes: Premiuminboxes for Google, Scaledmail for MSFT, Clay for lead segmentation and personalization. Smartlead for sending. Simple as that.

  5. Campaigns best practices.

    Never stop doing the basics. First focus all testing around your value propositions. No amount of copywriting is going fix a bad value prop, so keep testing until you find what works. Ideally keep your email copy under 75 words and at a 5th grade English level. We are sending 3 emails, 2 value prop emails and a referral email follow up.
