Actionable Cold Email Tip

I’ve been on 12 sales calls in the last week and have noticed a common theme across these conversations.

Most B2B leaders are struggling to get results with outbound.

They know they need to do it but they haven’t had success for one reason or another.

Some have tried SDRs, some are relying on referrals or word of mouth.

No matter what they’ve tried, 99% of companies struggling to convert cold traffic haven’t yet figured out their offer.

This means they’re usually trying to sell a service like ‘we do x thing for you’. This works with warm audiences because they’re already familiar with you and you’ve already created at least a bit of trust.

This is not the case with cold traffic. When you’re knocking on digital doors (getting into the inbox), people haven’t asked to be contacted which is a big gap to solve for.

Think about it like this: if you went up to someone at a business conference and said: “hey I can run your Facebook ads”

And to the next guy you say: “hey I’ll set up your Facebook ads account to help you add 20 new leads to your calendar every month.”

Which do you think will work better?

The second option every time.

Cold traffic wants to buy an outcome. They’re less interested in getting a service. This is because a million people who do your service are saying the same thing.

To separate yourself from the pack, you need to reposition yourself.

Create a positing gap between you and the rest of your market by giving the prospect an outcome.

So what we’ve been doing for our clients is creating cold friendly offers.

To create an offer people want do the following:

  1. Ask your existing clients why did you buy?

  2. What pain were you looking to solve working with me?

  3. What was the most valuable thing about my service?

  4. What would be something you would pay 10x for?

If you don’t have a lot of clients, pay someone for their time and run an informational interview.

Then use your collected data to craft an offer.

It’s not guaranteed it will work immediately, but with testing and iteration you will start to see more interest from cold traffic.

Once it starts working, don’t change it up. Keep pushing and validate your offer.

Like anything, it’s a blend of science and art, but ultimately offer creation comes down to understanding your customer’s pains.

Align your messaging with these pains and test until you find something that works.
