Actionable Cold Email Tip

Most businesses hit a wall with their cold email campaigns and blame their sending platform or cope saying ‘cold email doesn’t work for me’.

After analyzing 100s of cold email campaigns, I’ve found three consistent bottlenecks.

Once you unlock them, I’ve seen companies go from 1 interested reply per week to 1+ interested reply per day. That’s significant.

Here’s what stops your cold email campaigns from scaling.

1) Deliverability Issues. This is the unsexiest answer to campaign troubles, but is one of the most common. I was reviewing a friend’s campaign yesterday. Here’s their stats: 1,000 total emails sent, 0 replies. You should be targeting a minimum reply rate of 1%. If you’re lower than this, you have a deliverability problem. The easiest solution is to buy more domains and start warming new inboxes.

2) Weak Offer. If you aren’t getting at least 1 positive reply for every 200 leads contacted, then you have an offer issue. This means you’re pitching a value prop or lead magnet that isn’t interesting enough to your target audience. If your prospect doesn’t resonate with the pain your solving for, then you need to rework your offer. The solution here is to speak with your customers and ask about the biggest pains they were facing when they started working with you. You can also do Chat GPT research to understand the top 10 value props for your service. Repurpose this into messaging and then test across 500 leads until your interested lead ratio is 1:200.

3) Low Volume. Most people massively underestimate the volume needed to get results with cold outbound. I was on a call with a prospect yesterday and I asked him about his volume. They only reached 1,000 new leads over 9 months of outreach. They had some results, but it was inconsistent. Consider the target 1:200 interested lead ratio, this means you’ll expect only 5 interested replies in total. That is not a enough if you want to scale consistently. Solve for volume by doing sales math. If you want 5 meetings per month, at 50% conversion from interested leads and a 1:200 interested lead ratio, you’ll need 10 interested replies from 2,000 valid prospects.

You can be the best copywriter or outbound strategist in the world, but with deliverability issues, a weak offer and low volume you’re going to have a bad time.

Deliverability is the ace, Offer is the king and Volume is the queen,
