Actionable Cold Email Tip
Last week, I got a great question from a Leads to Earnings reader.
They asked: What is the #1 thing to look out for while setting up your cold email machine?
The answer?
Do not skimp on the fundamentals.
Pretty unsexy answer, right?
This is the reality of cold outbound in November 2024.
Most people want to hear it’s a secret hack, trick or tip that isn’t common knowledge.
In my experience, this is cope because they’re having trouble getting results from their campaign.
Most people don’t want to hear a successful campaign derives from it’s core elements: sending infrastructure, offer, segmented lead list and a legitimate online presence.
If you don’t have these locked down, your campaign will be dead in the water.
AI personalization or a secret lead list source or a magic deliverability tactic isn’t going to save it.
And most people don’t want to hear they aren’t getting results because they simply aren’t doing the basics well enough.
This is a tough pill to swallow when we’ve all been fed the guru hacks.
The guru’s make it seem like everything is so hard and they’re the only ones who hold the key to big wins and campaign success.
That’s not the reality though. I know this because we’re able to book meetings daily for our business and my client’s businesses in ‘tough to crack’ markets like B2B SaaS, paid media, local services, healthcare and technology.
All that’s required is doing the fundamentals consistently over and over again. This means doing the reps and iterating on the data to make a campaign work.
It’s not rocket science.
All you need is a willingness to learn, lean into the learnings, and then sooner or later you get good.
Here’s the deal though…

Quick bite-sized pointer: Don't scale volume too early without nailing your message. Target a 1:1,000 lead to meeting ratio. Once you've established this benchmark, then scale your volume up. This works because you've done the work to validate your message-market fit.
