Actionable Cold Email Tip
There are 3 key things to test in any cold email campaign.
By dialing in these three things, you’ll have 95% of what you need to generate results with cold outbound. They are:
1) Your List
2) Value Props
3) CTA
Most people say you need to test subject lines, personalization and a million different copy frameworks.
While it makes sense to work on these if your process is dialed in, but they’re further downstream meaning they’re less impactful on your results.
Let me break it down for you.
»Testing your list helps you connect your targeting with your messaging. If this isn’t aligned then, it’s going to be very difficult to truly understand what is working. This means building out your total addressable market and then finding all relevant individuals at the underlying companies.
»Testing value propositions helps you understand the benefits and outcomes your prospects want most. Build out a list of value propositions related to your service and then apply into your messaging matrix. This isolates the value prop and allows you to gather a consistent data set. Then you can use the data to make decisions for your next campaigns.
» Your CTA is the actual thing the prospect replies to, whether its more information, a guide, Loom audit, checklist, free trial, etc. Having multiple lead magnets or offers will help you attract more interested leads because you’re meeting them at different stages in their journey. No prospect has the exact same level of solution-problem awareness. Every prospect is in a different stage in their buying cycle. Meet them where they’re at with different CTAs.
Here are 6 steps to do this:
Create a list of each of these variables you want to test
Apply one of each to your email frameworks and create your campaign.
Once the replies start rolling in, that’s when it starts to get interesting. Collect your replies and review which angles generated replies.
Map these out by adding each angle into a spreadsheet.
Then you can analyze your data to draw some conclusions. You’ll start to see a few value props resonate much more deeply than others.
These now become the foundation of your copy going forward.
So now instead of blinding following interested replies, you are starting to understand what is driving responses.
This means more of your copy will be on the right track and you’ll spend less time ‘testing’ things that aren’t actually moving the needle.
An action item for you today is to think through your campaigns like this and hopefully you’ll see at least a small uptick in your conversions, at best you’ll see a huge improvement
