Actionable Cold Email Tip
Most sales leaders struggle with outbound because they don’t have a cold friendly offer.
The reason they struggle is because most people selling a service or product have a warm-audience offer.
Outbound offers are a completely different story.
But first, what is an offer?
An offer is the thing you’re selling to an audience to get them to start a buying conversation.
An offer’s key variables include: Dream Outcome, Perceived Likelihood of Achievement, Time Delay, Effort and Sacrifice
The basic equation created by Internet marketing goat, Alex Hormozi, defined the offer as equal to Desired Outcome (Quantifiable End Result) + Unique Mechanism (Your Service) + Risk Reversal (Guarantee and/or Proof)
So… you get offers, what’s the difference between warm and cold?
Warm offers capture demand and work because they assume a given amount of trust from a referral or content. Demand capture offers are needed by the prospect, but it’s not always apparent to the customer. These are harder to convince someone they need it now, especially in sophisticated markets. Timing is a common trigger for warm offers (think company funding, new product releases, hiring for a role, new leader).
Outbound offers create demand and are optimized for a cold audience. Demand generation offers pique interest without initial need. The prospect has a lower perceived likelihood of achieving the expected goal, so you need to minimize the risk on the prospect’s end. This means creating an suite of offers, starting with your intro offer.
The intro offer is something I’ve covered in the past and will detail more in the future, but the gist is its a lower ticket, lower commitment offer with a guarantee. Most people will slap a guarantee on a recurring service and call it a day. Instead, you should be focusing on helping the prospect achieve a specific, valuable end state, which solves a real pain point in a specific time frame. An example for B2B SaaS is a free setup, trial or demo. An example for a B2B service is a loom video with insights (free), service setup, workflow or info product.
Improve your offer by increasing the perceived value of getting your clients the outcome they want with minimum risk on their side.
The key is to test a bunch of different offers and find what works. Once you’ve brainstormed your offers, apply them to this framework.
We help {niche} achieve {desired outcome} by {unique mechanism} in {timeframe} and {risk reversal}.
Keep testing until you’ve achieved a 1:200 interested lead ratio. Once you’ve done that, you’re now validated and you can scale up your volume.
If you want some help creating your own offer, reply to this email with your situation and I’ll give you an actionable step you can use to convert more cold traffic.
