Cold Email Tip of the Week

Cold email deliverability is not as simple as set it and forget it.

It's unfortunate, but that's how it goes in life.

Deliverability is so important because:

If your emails are going to junk or spam or promotions tab, then less people are going to see it.

If less people see it, less people will reply.

With less replies, you will book less calls.

With less calls, you will make fewer sales.

Even if you setup your tech infrastructure correctly, send conservative volume, warm your domains, validate your list, and have a cold-friendly offer deliverability problems can still arise.

You are sending emails to leads who have not told us they want to be contacted. As a result, there is always the chance your email gets marked as spam.

Here’s a simple checklist to minimize spam complaints so you can stay inside the primary inbox and out of the junk folder:

Domains

  • 20+ secondary sending domains

  • .com domains only

  • all your domains redirected to your main domain

  • SPF, DMARC and DKIM settings added to your DNS for each domain

  • You have verified DNS settings with MXToolbox

Inboxes

  • 2 Microsoft Outlook inboxes per domain

  • Attached to warmup for at least 15 days

  • 25 warming emails per day

  • 25 cold outbound emails per day

Copywriting

  • plain text emails only

  • no images or links

  • no spam words

  • less than 100 words

  • use Spintax

  • A/B test different offers

Campaign Metrics

  • only send to valid emails

  • 2% or less bounce rate

  • turn off open, click tracking

  • add unsubs to DNC list

  • send emails Monday-Friday

Useful Bits

  • Quote of the week: “Average Players want to be left alone. Good players want to be coached. Great players want to be told the truth.” – Doc Rivers

  • Quick bite-sized pointer: The faster your feedback loop the faster your progress. Instead of waiting until tomorrow to make the change, do it today & evaluate the feedback tomorrow. Iterate with 2x the speed and achieve 2x more progress.

Interested Lead Follow Up Protocol

Effective Follow up is a mix of art and science but don't overcomplicate it

When a prospect responds to your cold email with positive intent, expect to follow up in perpetuity until they convert or say "no".

Once you get an interested reply, follow up 4-5 times over the next month

If there's still no response, then space your long term follow ups over 14-30 days

Say a prospect replies….

First respond to their question and push into a meeting with a direct call to action.

Then nudge them along with your follow up.

Prospects typically want to know about your process, (ie how do you work), your case studies (ie do you have relevant results), and pricing (ie how much do you charge).

Leads will ask the same questions in a million different ways, but are generally looking to get to the same answer.

We recommend you create an ongoing library of common engaged lead responses broken down by response type so you can respond to these requests at scale and with accuracy.

Write a response and save it down for future use.

Next time a prospect asks the same question, you'll have a templatized response that has already been validated.

No need to reinvent the wheel every time a new prospect asks the same question.

This is a huge lever to pull in your inbox management process and will go a long way in quickly responding to interested leads.
