The first thing I’d solve if I started my business over again
How to bridge the gap from cold to closed

Actionable Cold Email Tip
If I had to start my entire business over again, this is the thing I’d solve first….
Simply, creating daily structure to do build and do deep work.
Let me explain.
Earlier this year, I was working harder than ever (12+ hour days) but I still felt like I had no time to move the business forward.
Looking for a solution, I joined a coaching program to help me expedite my growth. The first thing they asked was to look at my calendar. I thought this was a funny suggestion because in my view I was organized and had a world class calendar system.
After digging in I realized I couldn’t have been more wrong.
It was a scattered mess with meetings all over the place, no consistency, no time to do deep work and a to do list a mile long.
In other words, I was spending a lot of my time head bobbling around in Slack, checking social media and simply just being ‘busy’.
Once I identified this main problem, I racked my brain for a solution.
I needed to simplify.
So I setup my first 5 hours as deep work blocks.
Each of the 5 hours is designated to do a task that moves the business forward (not client work or sales calls). This means I complete 1 main task each hour.
For each hour, I set a 60 minute timer and continue working on that one specific task until the hour is over. Then I take a 15 minute break and start another time block.
This gives me 5 straight hours specifically earmarked to do business moving tasks.
I’m not a big you need to have a 50 step routine to be successful kind of guy, but once I started time blocking out my daily productivity skyrocketed.
You might think - “when am I supposed to do my client work or reply to clients or do team training.”
The answer is simple but perhaps something that will challenge a pre-existing belief (something I had for sure). You simply do it after your time blocks.
You might also think - ‘damn that means you’re starting early’. The answer is also, ‘yes, you still have to work a lot. That’s the just the way it goes.’
So here are my 5 time blocks and how I think about them:
Start your day with the highest leverage task. In my case it’s my newsletter, prospecting or building new content.
Then I’ll spend an hour building internal cold email campaigns, keeping my CRM updated, writing nurture emails to prospects, and updating clients on campaign status.
Next I’ll prioritize another hour for content creation like concepting new YouTube videos, recording, editing and posting them. This also includes creating lead magnets or trainings to share with clients.
Then I’ll spend an hour improving my service or creating new SOPs to train the team up.
The last hour is for the most important task of the day. This can be upskilling, research and development or doing more of hours 1-4. There is no right or wrong answer here.
It’s not a perfect system, but it works for me and has helped me move my business forward light years since I made these small tweaks.
Hopefully you can get some extra leverage by implementing this even for a single day out of your week.
Cheers

Tweet of the Day: (link)
Quote of the week: Sales is like dating. If you chase: You won’t get what you want. If you’re desperate: you won’t get what you want. You win when you don’t need the relationship and have what the other person is looking for. — Jeremy Miner
Quick bite-sized pointer: Selling to a cold audience is not the same as closing referrals and word of mouth. Cold prospects don't trust you.... yet. To bridge this gap, I make content showcasing: -client case studies showing actual results -sales assets providing solution to narrow problem set. Easy as.
