How to get rid of uncertainty in sales

Actionable Cold Email Tip

In selling, all prospect objections are just questions rooted in uncertainty.

This means the prospect doesn’t believe what you’re selling will work for them. There is probably some uncertainty around your process, your ability to execute or the results you’re promising.

I’ve observed this across verticals and is typical in super competitive markets where there are many inexperienced players who burn bridges and ultimately don’t get results.

This leaves business owners traumatized from bad actors (or decent people who simply don’t know what they’re doing).

This is why I advise all my clients to create intro offers. They are one of the key ingredients to convert cold audiences. Remember, cold leads don’t know you, trust you or like you - yet.

Solve for this by reducing their risk.

Most people immediately think about risk in terms of dollars, but there are other costs associated with risk. For example, time spent, effort and ego.

Your prospect has a budget to consider but also doesn’t want to spin their wheels for months on end, or make buying recommendations to their team only to backtrack months later, losing their respect and trust.

Persuade your lead to take action by:

  1. Maximizing their potential gain on a limited time horizon. Example: you’ll get personalized tactics that will help you achieve x result in y time frame.

  2. Removing negative consequences. Example: Remove uncertainty with a proven blueprint. Instead of spending time and effort figuring it out, we’ll show you the exact steps to get result.

  3. Illustrate what happens if they stay same. Example: Or you can stay your current course, get the same results and stay exactly as you are. We can help you avoid these pitfalls and do it right the first time because we’ve already done it for 100 customers in your niche.

So… when you’re creating your intro offer here is a check list to making sure your offer moves the needle.

Intro Offer Checklist:

  • Make them money or save them time

  • Measurable or tangible deliverables

  • 100x ROI potential

  • Completely eliminates five types of risk

  • Productized

  • Fulfilled at $250/hour or more

Risk Elimination Checklist:

  • Financial risk (fee)

  • Financial Risk (you screwing it up)

  • Time & Effort Risk (fixing your screw up)

  • Reputation Risk (consequences of you screwing it up)

  • Ego Risk (trying and failing)
