  • Deliverability "hacks" for outbound

  • How to prevent shiny object syndrome

Actionable Cold Email Tip

I wasted a lot of time trying to ‘figure out’ deliverability.

The reality is, deliverability will always be a cat and mouse game with the big email service providers Google and Microsoft.

You can spend hours per day trying to figure out which inbox is landing in the primary or spam folder. This is a low leverage use of time.

Wanna know what I do instead?

Stick to the fundamentals and when you see deliverability drop, buy new domains and get them setup.

It’s not sexy, but it’s what works to generate 1-2 leads per day for our clients.

Most people will try to spintax their emails to death. This can dilute your message.

Instead, I use this checklist to make sure I’m getting results.

Deliverability Settings:

  • 2 inboxes per domain (50% Google/50% Microsoft)

  • 15 or less emails per inbox per day

  • Verified DNS settings

  • Domain redirect

  • Keep bounce rate under 2%

Campaign Settings:

  • Validate emails with MillionVerifier (only send to valid emails)

  • Make sure no special characters in your data (name, company name, industry, etc)

  • 3 step campaign (2 value based emails and a referral email)

  • Include unsubscribe message as text so prospect replies to unsubscribe (this helps with reply rates, increasing engagement)

  • Cold email copy should be less than 80 words (short, sweet and to the point)

That’s it. People like to overcomplicate the deliverability matter and yes it is very important but the biggest thing to keep an eye on is your reply rate.

If it’s below 1% but only isolated, then you’ll want to confirm your targeting, offer and campaign strategy is ok.

If I see consistent inbox degradation (less than 1% reply rates), I will spin up a new batch of domains and inboxes.

If you do this, you’ll be consistently hitting the inbox and getting interested replies.

Do this instead: > buy 20 more domains to increase volume > scrape a list of 5k leads > build a sales asset to give free value > create a campaign using sales asset. Focus on the fundamentals and you'll be fine.
