Actionable Cold Email Tip

The difference between winning and losing is simply a) staying in the game and b) choosing to do the right stuff

But how do you know the “right stuff” that actually moves the needle vs the busy work that can consume entire days?

It all comes down to having a plan and sticking to it.

Today I want to share a behind the scenes look at the big picture of how I’m going about scaling up my Agency. I’ve been executing this strategy for the last few months and have started to see noticeable shifts in the business.

Sales calls are warmer, inbound leads are increasing and internal systems are generating consistent client results.

Here’s how I’m going about it:

  1. Start by setting 5 annual objectives such that if you hit each objective, then you would hit your revenue goal. The best objectives are high leverage meaning they satisfy at least one of the four main business levers- media, labor, code or capital. My objectives are building out my lead gen funnel, dialing in my fulfilment processes, nailing my offer, creating a high converting unique mechanism and growing an audience on YouTube.

  2. Once you’ve set up your 5 annual objectives, break these objectives down into key results. The easy way to think about this is: what 5 things need to be true in order to achieve my objective? In my case, to grow an audience on YouTube, I’ll need to (1) come up with fire content ideas not regurgitated by every other person who has done cold email for 4 months, (2) create & post weekly YouTube videos, (3) create thumbnails to beat my average click through rate, (4) improve Average retention and viewer satisfaction to beat industry average and (5) get on 5 podcasts.

  3. Once you have the key results, the next step is to break down each result into a sequence of tasks. This is every single step you need to complete in order to achieve your key result. Once you’ve built your list of tasks, add the tasks into a calendar as a sequence of daily activities. Then work through them one by one.

Sound simple? Yes, that’s because it is.

Planning is the first part of the equation. The next step is execution. Take diligent effort every single day to knock your tasks off the list. Check them off one by one and in the next year you’ll have nailed all of your 5 main objectives and crushed your goals.

In that time, I’ve found one of the biggest leverage points in your list is finding email address data that doesn’t come directly from highly used sources like like Apollo. Get more from your list by doing waterfall enrichment - this is the process of putting your list through multiple email finding tools. If one tool doesn’t find the valid email, use the next tool. I’ve used other data tools like Findymail, Icypeas, DropContact and a data waterfall aggregator, Bettercontacts(.)rocks. Using waterfall enrichment can help you get 40-60% more from your list so next time you want more out of your list, simply run it through more data providers.
