Actionable Cold Email Tip

In 2025, one of the most effective ways to generate meetings is by cold calling.

I’ve been training up a new SDR and they’ve started to book meetings via cold calling in their first month.

Like anything, this is a work in progress, but I want to share some insights into the process so far.

I firmly believe cold calling will continue to be an important part of outbound in 2025 and beyond. This is how I plan on implementing an appointment setting process that will get better over time.

Here’s how:

First focus on inputs. Data accuracy is a minimum criteria to get an accurate read on your team’s performance. Use Clay’s mobile enrichments to collect phone number data.

Target a daily input goal per SDR. This can be as low as 25 if you have higher intent lead sources and upwards of 200 if you’re doing completely cold outbound. Use a power dialer if the latter.

Once your team consistently hits your outbound dial number, you’ll want to target a minimum connect rate of 10%. So for every 100 dials, you get 10 people to answer. If your numbers are lower, first validate the numbers via a mobile validator like Clearoutphone then try dialing before working hours, after working hours, throughout the day.

The next step is connect to convo. I define a conversation as getting consent from the prospect. This means you’re able to get the prospect to agree to hearing more about your solution and how you help. For this I target a minimum of 50% but ideally it’s more. If this number is low, then you have a targeting issue, or your initial hook isn’t good enough.

Now you’ve pitched your solution, it’s time to book the call in. This metric shows how well your pitch resonates with the prospect. Ideally this number is 20%, so for every 100 dials you’re booking at least 1 call. If you're numbers are lower, then dial in your list, practice your hook and update your pitch using pain points from sales calls that actually closed.

This is the basic process you’ll need to keep repeating until your script is dialed in. Identify your constraint, solve it and move on. It’s simple, not necessarily easy.

First focus on inputs, and the outputs take care of themselves,

Isaac
