How Any Business Can Apply Cold Outreach To Win More Clients

Actionable Cold Email Tip

One of the best use cases for cold email is partnership outreach. This is different than direct sale outreach where you’re engaging with a prospect to acquire them as a customer.

Partnership outreach includes reaching out to other complementary services who share a similar ideal customer profile, but offer a completely different service. For example, I recently created a partnership with a landing page agency.

They have clients who need help doing outreach and I have clients who need an optimized landing page. This is a no brainer relationship where we can share resources to generate more value for our client base.

The more value I can provide to my clients, the happier they will be and the longer they will stay.

And not only are these conversations less salesy, if you strike a deal with a partner you can substantially lower your cost to acquire a client.

Think about it like this:

Assume you have to spend $1,000 to acquire a $5,000 client by doing direct outreach. Now consider acquiring a client through a partnership agreement where they refer you business and you pay your partner a percentage of your new client’s fee. Instead of spending 1k for a new client, you acquire the client in exchange for a $500 referral fee. These numbers are just examples. You can get creative with your referral structure to make it worthwhile for both you and your partners.

Here’s a step by step guide to create a partnership campaign:

1. Identify Potential Partners:

Look for business segments that complement your products or services without directly competing with your core offer.

2. Build a List of Partners:

Use Apollo or Clay to build a list of partners. Verify your list with Millionverifier. Collect LinkedIn URLs to do omni channel outreach.

3. Do outreach via cold email & LinkedIn:

Build a 3 step cold email campaign offering to help their clients achieve a specific benefit relating to your service.

For anyone who engages with your emails, add them on LinkedIn.

Follow up via email, LinkedIn DMs and start building an actual relationship.

3. Push to a call and setup referral agreement:

Push to a call to discuss how you can help their clients get the benefit of your service and show them that you can help them bring on more new clients.

When you’re starting up your next outreach campaign, I suggest allocating at least 25% of your outreach to partnership prospects.
