Actionable Cold Email Tip
I’ve learned selling to a cold audience requires an extraordinary amount of trust.
Is it harder than selling to a warm audience? Yes. A whole lot harder. Is it impossible? Definitely not - there are 8, and 9 figure businesses built entirely on cold outreach.
If you’ve ever grown based on referrals and words of mouth, you’re already more than half of the way there. That’s because you have a solution that delivers.
Closing referrals is ‘easier’ because you already have built in trust. The prospect was referred to you by someone they know and trust. That implied trust is then transferred to you.
So how do you solve for this when a prospect doesn’t know you, hasn’t asked to be contacted by you or trust you?
Here’s the single most important but underrated aspect to building trust and getting a cold prospect to convert into a sales call.
Your video sales letter (or VSL).
The importance of this cannot be understated - I’ve seen clients improve their conversion 5x after they applied a VSL.
The reason why they work so well is because they give you a chance to explain your offer to a prospect who knows literally nothing about you or your business.
You get complete control of your narrative.
Assume all prospects don’t know you, don’t know what you offer, how it works and they have basically no time.
Most people think because their prospect is time poor, they won’t watch a video. The thing is, every single customer of mine has watched my VSL. My client’s have a similar pattern.
This shows the actual buyers are watching and is a huge intent signal.
Since we’re optimizing for people who actually purchase our stuff, we want to do everything we can to get them one step closer to making that decision.
So… today’s tip is simple. Build a video sales letter showcasing your offer. It doesn’t need to be perfect to start. Take note of your conversions and ask your prospects if they’ve watched the video. Then track their answers against the prospects you close. Work to create a better higher converting video over time.
You’ll see the people who buy are the same ones who engage with your video sales letter.
